Winter break so far 12/27/10

Hello! Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!!!

San Luis Obispo is known also for its self serve yogurt shops. One of them, Yogurt Creations , I used to work for (they have a location in Atascadero, the one i used to work at, and in SLO). Before they went Dippin Dots themed they used to be known for their black and white cow print colors.
Anyhow, i remembered that they would at least have one flavor a day that would be non-dairy.
I havn't been in there since I became a vegan and I was curious about what the flavor of the day was!
I was excited to see they still had non-dairy flavor of the day, which was Watermelon Sorbet!
I checked in the freezer for their other non-dairy flavors and saw an Acai sorbet! I'm so excited. Totally going to check in every so often now!

Atascadero park

Cozy home with fire in the fireplace

Christmas tree!

Raw Mac & Chreeze, Raw Chili

Raw Cucumber Hummus, Raw Chreeze Dip

Kale Chips!

Raw Tomato Basil Salad

Spinach Balls

Potatoes

Dessert! Truffles!

I'm kinda stoked. Tomorrow I'll be hoping on a train for Eugene, Or!
Going to meet up with friends who live there and scout out the area! I've heard so much about it so I've been kinda stoked to try and check it out!
Hopefully I get the chance to update tomorrow!
And P.S., if there is a recipe you and to learn to make, make sure you message me about it and I'll post the ingredients!

Winter break so far 12/23/10

Hi hello!
Seriously, every single day I have been bumping into people I know in the SLO area! Its crazy!
I remember when I first moved here I was like, "i can't wait til I get a reputation here!" because I really wanted to meet a lot of people!
I think I know the whole town now. Its quite official. I don't even live here anymore! Haha!

This was the special of the day at Natural Cafe! It was a Grilled Veggie Pita! Sooo delicious!

So, it had been raining for a week. It was super narly! As you can see here, the creek in front of the SLO mission became flooded!

That is SLO in the rain. That is my mother in the green jacket :)
It was kinda lovely how it was raining though. Cozying up by the fire, drinking mint chocolate milk with peppermint schnapps and watching movies. It had been super nice!
:)

San Luis Obispo at night

The weather has cleared up now and I have to run a few errends today. Not doing Los Angeles. But will have to be back in Santa Barbara for a few hours and then back to SLO for farmers.

Tonight some bands are playing at the Clubhouse in San Luis Obispo around 8pm.
Who's playing?
Sea Birds, December Valentines and Contraband
740 West Foothill Blvd, San Luis Obispo, Ca 9340
5

So if you are in the SLO area! Check this event out after going to the farmers market downtown tonight!

Winter break so far 12/22/10

Hello again! I'm in a coffee shop called Kruezberg! In San Luis Obispo! I am having a gigantic almond hazelnut latte! this coffee shop is fairly new, its only been open for a month! Its so beautiful and spacious inside! And options in milk are varied! Instead of having regular milk, you can choose between: soy, almond, hazelnut, hemp, or coconut milk!
Totallyyyy cooool!

A friend's artwork, Jeff Claassen, has his pictures everywhere inside too!

My 16oz Hazelnut Latte with Almond Milk!

This is my baby girl, Roxy! :D Isn't she beautiful <3

My "soy philly cheeze steak" !
inspiration from Peta Vegan College Cookbook!

what you do

-hot dog bun (used Ezekiel sprouted grain hot dog bun)
-one side spread out veganaise (used Follow Your Heart)
-place a couple strips of soy steak inside hot dog bun
-used daiya cheese (both the mozzarella & chedder) on top of soy steak strips
-microwave for a minute (if you want the soy steak darker, then place it independently in the microwave for a minute or so beforehand)
-afterwards just sprinkle the inside with pepper!

Winter break so far 12/21/10

my goodness. so i'm in my parents town of Atascadero (San Luis Obispo County). I'm at a lovely coffee shop called Malibu Brew. This has to be the best coffee shop in town. Well. Actually. It is the only coffee shop in town besides Starbucks. But. Its really good coffee! My favorites here are the Polar Express blended coffees! They come in Espresso, Oreo, and Java Chip. And they can make it vegan. yeee!

this is the cookies in cream with soy! basically its just blended oreos, coffee, and soy milk. <3

Found this awesome organic chocolate shop along Monterey Street in San Luis Obispo! Its called Good Earth! anything with the green leaf circle label is considered vegan! whoop whoop!

i got the Espresso truffle! yummmm! it was delish!

and happy late Channukkah! i finally perfected my Chocolate Halvah Cookies!

what you doooo

4 tablespoons raw tahini
2 tablespoons raw honey or agave nectar
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1 tablespoon carob powder

Winter break so far 12/16/10

today
was my day of official rest.
and it felt nice.
i sat in all day and read a book
that was not related to school.

and guess what.
i'm done with school.
i pretty much consider my college years to be in SanLuisObispo
but i had some more knowledge to acquire here in SantaBarbara.

and now i'm on a winter break til the end of February.
which is legit.

this entire break i'm traveling.
traveling is the only thing that keeps me sane.

i love visiting different towns every weekend
if i get a chance to
i mainly visit family and friends.

tomorrow i'm leaving for San Luis Obispo again.
then back to Santa Barbara Monday possibly
then possibly to Los Angeles area hopefully tuesday/wed?

who knows.
spontaneity is key.
who knows what will happen tomorrow.
who knows what will happen the next day
or even next week.

life is full of surprises.
we all want to make something happen
but you know what.
you can't force it. you can't expect it.
life will flow the way it wants
whether you like it or not.

toughen up. life is going to be hard sometimes.
all you gotta do is LIVE.
.
anyways. ...

last night i went out to Isla Vista to check out a fellow Atascaderian's musical talent.

Check him out.
music page: http://www.myspace.com/morganenos/music

facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sea-Birds/159910107381179?v=info

He goes by Sea Birds and his name is Morgan Enos

but also, while i was out there I discovered a new place to listen to eclectic underground styles of music.
and that sort of stuff makes my heart jump
i'm glad i found out about it!

Appearently, Isla Vista does have an Underground Music Scene. The house is called Biko garage.
and anyone can probably play here.
and outside a few people were playing with fire with techno music.
totally cool!

wish i had a better camera to take pictures.

but if you live in Santa Barbara, add Sb Diy as a friend on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/santabarbaradiy
so you can learn more about indie artists playing around the area!

there was art on the walls inside.

i had to take a picture of these owls :)

Pizza Picnic! & being a goof...

Tis the Christmas Season!

So while on a "study break"
my vegetarian friend, Sofie, and I went out to get a vegan pizza at Lazy Acres here in Santa Barbara

and here is our Pizza!

Lazy Acres in Santa Barbara
has options for you to make a Vegan Pizza!
so that is what we ordered. we did a 'make your own' with lots of veggies.
you get to choose like you would in a deli with the check boxes on paper

afterwards we walked around downtown and killed time before we got to see Burlesque in theaters!

this is what we did.
we walked into Claires and made fun of ourselves in nerdy glasses & accessories. :)

New Frontiers San Luis Obispo

Last time I was in San Luis Obispo, I had to pick up a couple of things I forgot to bring with me from Santa Barbara to make for Thanksgiving dinner. My mother told me that the New Frontiers relocated to a new location. I was upset when I heard about this. Because when I lived in SLO, I used to walk to the nearest grocery store to buy my food and the closest grocery store nearby within walking distance was New Frontiers. Its the memory that I loved and missed.

I decided to check out the new location and realized...Wow! This isn't so bad! Actually, its way better than it was before! Turns out, this grocery store is now bigger than a Whole Foods! Plus! They even have more vegan and raw items than a Whole Foods would have!

If I moved back to the Central Coast, I would survive. :)
I now love the fact that San Luis Obispo is open-minded to a healthier lifestyle :)

.P.S.
I love remixes.
.with a passion.
Kids at the Bar makes wonderful sounds.
My favorite song from them is: Rapture (KATB remix)
and i actually thought that was just their song, but no, its a remix
and the remix is way better than the original version.
Check out their songs! Its best to get hyped up to their stuff when getting ready for the day! :D
